View of Sugar Loaf, near Swoope’s Depot in Augusta County
With many of their homes behind lines, horse soldiers of the Laurel Brigade spent their last winter of the war in quarters constructed on the Teaford Farm and the rolling hills to the north of Sugar Loaf (elevation, 2,000 feet), just to the southwest of Swoope’s Depot, in Augusta County.
